A recently instated Pennsylvania law has volunteers scrambling to get background checks done. The child protection law was rewritten and took effect January 1st after the wake of the Sandusky incidents. This law forces all volunteers in schools, churches and any other regulated body to have a criminal background check performed before any volunteering happens. This law also mandates a follow up background check be conducted every 3 years. This popular movement may find its way into Ohio sooner than later, with many states adopting similar laws. Some volunteers feel this is an expensive hassle, but when it comes to our youth and their protection, precautions must and will be taken.
